Speaking to Hawzah News Agency in Tehran, Hojjat al-Islam Hassan Kamali, a Quranic researcher and scholar, described the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution as a comprehensive and Quranic personality, stating that the martyred Imam was among the most prominent Quranic figures of the contemporary era and indeed throughout the history of Shia jurists, leaving an enduring legacy in the history of Islam and Iran.
The seminary and university professor added that the martyred leader of the Ummah pursued the movement toward guiding Islamic society to Islamic civilization based on the same principles that God Almighty revealed to the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) for Islamic civilization-building.
Explaining the Martyred Leader's Vision of Islamic Governance Based on Quranic Verses
The seminary researcher cited verse two of Surah al-Jumu'ah as one of the most important verses explaining this approach, where God states regarding the mission of the Prophet: "It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom."
The religious expert continued: "This verse outlines three fundamental missions for the Prophet — first, recitation of divine verses; second, purification; and third, teaching the Book and wisdom. What the martyred leader proposed regarding self-development, society-building, and ultimately achieving Islamic governance and Islamic civilization can be analyzed within this Quranic framework, following the civilizational components established by the Prophet of Islam."
The Quranic researcher noted that examining the martyred leader's statements reveals approximately 20 Quranic demands, a significant portion of which were raised during early Ramadan meetings with Quran reciters and scholars, as well as at the closing ceremonies of international Quran competitions.
"These demands were not merely temporary recommendations tied to a specific period, but were presented within a broader framework aligned with the components of Islamic civilization-building. Therefore, if we wish to properly carry forward the Quranic legacy of the martyred leader, we must view these demands as a coherent collection connected to the greater objectives of Islamic society," he added.
The seminary and university professor stressed that Quranic recitation constitutes one of the central pillars of these demands, stating: "In the martyred leader's Quranic thought, recitation holds both intrinsic value and serves as a gateway to subsequent stages of Quranic growth for individuals and society."
Recitation Holds Great Significance in the Martyred Imam's View
Addressing various perspectives on the position of recitation, he said: "Among Quranic experts and scholars, there exists a view that recitation is merely a bridge and preliminary step toward higher stages. However, upon careful examination of verse two of Surah al-Jumu'ah and the martyred leader's Quranic thought, one can discern that recitation possesses both intrinsic value and serves as a preliminary stage, and should not be regarded solely as a transitional phase."
The Quranic researcher continued: "In this verse, God employs the term 'yatlu' in the present tense, indicating continuity. Therefore, recitation must remain a constant presence in human life alongside the other two components — purification and teaching."
He emphasized: "It is not the case that once an individual learns the rules of recitation and progresses through this stage, they abandon recitation altogether and focus solely on subsequent stages. Rather, Quranic recitation remains a continuous need throughout the path of human development."
The Martyred Leader Remained Devoted to Quranic Verses Throughout His Life
Hojjat al-Islam Kamali noted that examining the lives of great figures reveals that personalities such as Imam Khomeini and the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution remained devoted to the Quran until the final moments of their blessed lives, with Quranic recitation maintaining a constant presence in their daily lives.
"This demonstrates that recitation is not merely a preliminary stage, but remains essential throughout the path of human perfection — whether in the individual dimension, the social dimension, or even in the path of civilization-building," he said.
The seminary and university professor concluded by stating that officials of the Islamic Republic across all ranks and positions must possess a Quranic character, adding: "The martyred Imam stood with ultimate strength and authority against global arrogance due to his devotion to the Quran and deep contemplation of divine verses."
